Tobias Bijl
Tobias Bijl (1981) is a Dutch photographer artist based in Rotterdam. After a study Philosophy at the Utrecht University, he graduated in 2017 at the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam. From 2019 till 2022 he followed an ISSP International Masterclass under guidance of mentor Lisa Barnard.
With a strong fascination in repetitive patterns in history, he investigates the intersection between collective memory and evolution. In long-term and research-based projects he creates, collects and connects visual material to construct new work. With an urgent theme from society as a starting point, he connects a historical event with which he tries to unravel universal values that provide insight into humanity.
His graduation project Lost Takes got awarded with several nominations and prizes including Best Debut at the Dutch Photobook Award and the Best Dutch Book Design. Currently he is working on his next project called Buska.
